The 31-year-old recently revealed that he is undergoing treatment for testicular cancer in his native Argentina and, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, was told to find a new club during the summer.
Gutierrez told The Chronicle: "I don't want to say if they were good or bad, I can't judge. What I can say is that it hurt me very much when they told me to look for another team after I had the surgery.
"I had been at the club for five years – that was tough."
