Mancini has dismissed speculation that he does not rate Icardi, explaining that he merely wanted to give the 21-year-old a rest.
"Icardi will start against Udinese," the former Galatasaray boss told reporters on Saturday. "I went with Osvaldo against Roma because he was fresher but I have faith in both him and Mauro.
"I think Icardi can develop into a top-class centre forward. As I said, I have great confidence in him."
Mancini, of course, is only in the early stages of his second spell in charge of Inter, having spent four years at San Siro between 2004 and 2008.
